How to bath your dog at home
Просмотров 3892 месяца назад
Bathing your dog at home can be messy, but it's crucial to untangle any knots before using shampoo, as it can make them tighter and harder to remove. A slicker and comb can be used for minor knots, while major matting should be tackled by a professional groomer. Washing a dog with significant matting can prevent the skin and coat from drying properly, leading to possible skin irritations or inf...

I learnt in this video to slide the moving blade aside to expose usually hidden parts for proper cleaning. Awesome.

    Hi Melanie, the videos are great. I’ve got a 7 month corgi. How frequently should I wash her, what temperature should the water be and how do you get the dogs to stand so quietly? Final question - where do you get the non slip mat the dog is on. Thanks.

    • @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
      @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials 22 дня назад

      Hi there, using quality products you can bath frequently, be sure to use conditioner after the shampoo as it helps add back moisture to the skin and coat. Just have the water temp warm to touch , 32-34 degrees Celsius . Our dogs are very used to the process so in time your girl will learn. For non slip mat you can just use a shower floor non slip mat , they are easy to find at homeware stores. Hope that helps.

    I don't shave Gucci's, my Corgi. I clip out the hair in her pads with a small clipper. I'm working on scissoring the top of her paws. I use a comb to brush the hair up instead of the brush. The brush is too big. I bought it to brush her double coat. A groomer recommended it. I usually work on Gucci's feet at the end of her bath and she's pretty restless. I trim off enough to see her nails, so I can clip them. She does everything she can so I can't see what I'm doing. I was holding her paw in my hand turning it up and under her body so she could balance. She wiggles a lot pulling her paw away. Sometimes I sit on the grooming table beside her. The lighting isn't very good. I put the grooming table close to the sink and there's a mirror in front of her. She likes to see the "Corgi" in front of her. She hates having her nails clipped. Suggestions? I have clippers with a light and a Dremel. I don't know which one is the best way to clip her nails. I like how you hold the paw up by holding on to the upper part of the leg instead of the paw. I've been working on scissoring, but I never watched it being done just read how to do it. Thanks 👍.

    I’m enjoying the heck out of this. I’m a 63 year old retired welder fabricator, biker guy from Pennsylvania and I’m surprised myself that I’m watching two nice ladies grooming poodles. But I’m from German shepherds all my life and now on my second black standard poodle. Amazing dogs. They are needy but my first one knew how to make me laugh when I wasn’t feeling it. Now my favorite breed. Melanie , you keep me smiling too. ✌️one more quick question, is bathing once a month ok or should I just wait till six or seven weeks and do the bath with the groom? My dog hangs out in the garage and truck with me, but I do keep him brushed so there’s never any knots. I also really want to get him to the river and lakes, so is brushing him good, good enough or can I bathe him more? Maybe you have a recommendation for a shampoo that won’t strip him of his natural oils in the coat and skin. Sorry if I’m being a pain and hogging too much information. But I trust your advice and will follow it. Keep up the good work and fun doing it. ✌️

  • @johnsellers9623
    @johnsellers9623 27 дней назад

    Melanie, you are so pleasant to listen to and your happiness does rub off on your friends and viewers. You give and gave me confidence to tackle the job of grooming my standard poodle, and it’s not nearly as easy as you make it look. I just took mine to a woman to clean up my work, but I think I’m gonna have to take a few lessons to know how much pressure I can put on the clippers. I’m so nervous I’m gonna cut or hurt him. And I’m realizing that to do a good job, scissor work is a must. But I’m determined and my little buddy is happy with how he looks when I try to clean him up. I was wondering if you just use powder and your fingers to get the hair out. I’m sure I’ve watched how you do it because I’m watching so many videos. But I’m not a fan of the groomers who twist the tweezers and yank. I know I’m not getting all of the hair out but they are clean and he doesn’t hate the way I do it. My other standard that passed from bloat last year had his ears cleaned by groomers regularly and he seemed to have ear infections to many times. I’m trying to figure out what is best and hopefully my baby boy won’t have the ear infections my other one had. Thanks for sharing your advice and experience with people like me that really need it. And from a normal, good and fun person. ✌️👍😊

    That happy hoody is too small. And you should wear a mask when blowing his coat out, thats a lot of hair and dander airborne. And FYI the panting is a sign of anxiety. If you used a set of smaller clippers between his bads you wouldn't have to use the hard bristle slicker brush against his pads to get the hair up.

      Hi there, because goldens have a water repellent coat it can be difficult to break the surface tension with water , just apply so shampoo neater on her coat, then wash into her coat, you will find the combination of shampoo and water will penetrate the coat and make it very easy then to shampoo. I hope that helps

    Would this procedure work for Pembroke Welsh Corgis? I use a deshedding shampoo and I bathe her twice then I use a conditioner.. While she has the conditioner on I run a deshedding tool through her coat. I'm sure that you know that corgis have a double coat. After I rinse the conditioner out I use a looped tool that's opened out straight to remove as much of the water from her coat before I towel dry her. She doesn't like the dog hair dryer, but it dries her coat so much faster than a human hair dryer. My folks had two Golden Retrievers, both named Niki. He sure is vocal when you bathe him! I've got to figure out how to save your RUclips video, so I can go back to it when I groom my Corgi, Gucci. I find it very informative.

      this is true when you are drying the longer areas, but on shorter areas I prefer to hold the dryer closer to push and remove the dead hairs out. It's important to watch what the hair is doing when you are drying so you can change the different drying techniques as you go through the longer hair, then the shorter hair. I hope this make sense 💕

    • @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
      @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials Месяц назад

      It sounds like your puppy needs to be re trained and eased back in grooming. At this age they can be very sensitive. I would suggest starting from the beginning. You will have groom your dog once a day and start by placing your dog on the grooming table for 1-2 minute with the grooming tools and then when your dog is still still and behaving, then take your dog off. Do this for about a week. Then the next week begin to touch your dogs legs with your hands and run your hands over his face. Once your dog is ok with this, then begin to brush your dogs back, and then slowly down the rest of the body. This will take practice, patience and perseverance. You need to teach your dog to behave when being groomed. If you both can work together, then you will set him up for happy grooming sessions. Grooming should not be a punishment and try not to reward the bad behaviour with cuddles, be strong and reward when his is being good💗 I really hope this helps. I have attached all our puppy videos for you 💗

      I sometimes do, if I feel the clip is messy or not sitting right. I definitely do when I hand scissor. My coats are always prepared very well and I try and stretch the coat out when drying to make it as straight and all hairs are separated which helps achieve an even clipped finish 💗

    What about the poop chute? My black standard four month old gave me a hard time. You professionals make it look so easy. But it’s not. I was doing my little black guy and I was off by two inches when I first started. I had to get a light to see what I was doing and couldn’t believe I was that far off. Looks ten times easier on a white or light colored dog. I have been spending more money on all the grooming supplies because I spent a lot on grooming and veterinary care with my last guy that died of bloat last year. I decided since I’m now retired that I would do the grooming and I’m finding out how totally lousy I am at it. But I’m hoping like everything else, it gets easier and I get better. lol. I should have watched a few more videos before I started. Doing his feet, he was making me think I was hurting him so they look like crap too. After our break, I’m finishing up his feet. I really thought it was going to be easier. 😳that’s the look on my face now. Thanks for sharing. Definitely helps me.

    • @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials
      @MelanieNewmanSalonEssentials Месяц назад

      What length are you doing on the body? I would normally clip around the poop chute on a 10 blade, and then around the rear end area do the length that you are clipping the body on. Yes, black dogs can be harder to see. The more you groom your dog the better and faster you will get, I promise. I would recommend trying to groom your dog at least every fortnight, this will make the job easier for you and your poodle. My poodle acts silly when I am clipping his poodle feet as well, but he will settle down the more I do it. Please don’t give up, you will get better 💗
